Music is an integral part of St. Bernard worship and liturgy. We believe that music has a profound effect on the Church’s many liturgical celebrations from Sunday Mass, through the various Feasts and Solemnities that mark the Catholic year.
Our musicians seek to lead the congregation in praising God, through the use of traditional and newer hymns, and a diverse repertoire of all genres of liturgical music.
We invite you to participate in our music ministry! Consider singing with one of our ensembles, choirs, or contribute using your talents by cantoring, playing an instrument or handbells.
Cantors offer support for community prayer through song and reflection. Anyone with good vocal skills and a passion for singing is encouraged to inquire about this ministry. Cantors are scheduled according to their availability. Rehearsals and vocal coaching are offered monthly, along with periodic training to develop the skills and awareness needed to lead music prayerfully. Anyone who is prayerfully considering the Ministry of Cantor will be asked to audition and work closely with the Liturgy & Music Coordinator.
If you have a passion for worship and a desire to help the church in praise, join the St. Bernard Choir. The choir welcomes adults and young adults (grades 9 and up). Singing a diversity of repertoire, including traditional, contemporary, and classical, the choir sings 2 times a month and for special liturgical celebrations during Christmas and Holy Week. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from September through May.
This group provides music on a monthly basis at our contemporary liturgy. The ensemble includes band members playing guitars, drums, keyboards, and more, as well as vocalists with a passion for praise and worship.
Men ages high school and older comprise the St. Bernard Men’s Choir. A dedicated group of men sing at two to four Masses per year. Rehearsals are held one to two weeks prior to the liturgical celebration. Men, if you don’t want to commit to weekly rehearsals, this is the group for you.
Individuals who are not able to commit to weekly rehearsals of the choir may find small ensemble participation a desirable alternative. Our small vocal groups each provide music once a month at weekend liturgies. The rehearsal schedule is set up based on the availability of the members of the group. Currently, our parish features four small vocal groups that lead singing for our weekend Masses throughout each month.
This Appleton Inter-parish choir sings at funerals occurring at St. Bernard Catholic Parish, as well as other local Appleton churches. Rehearsals take place immediately preceding the funeral liturgy. Weekday availability is essential for participants.
Be a part of adding to worship on a monthly basis by providing beautiful handbell music! This group is open to anyone from youth to adults. You don’t even have to be able to read music! “If you can count, you can play bells,” ringing a joyful sound.
Instrumentalists of any kind are always welcome to help celebrate Masses at St. Bernard! If you play the piano, organ, strings, winds, brass, guitar, percussion, we can find a place for you. Play on a regular basis or for special liturgies.
