“You created every part of me, knitting me in my Mother’s womb. For such handiwork, I praise you. Awesome this great wonder!”
Mantle of Love and Healer of Hearts
The Prayer Shaw Ministry at St. Bernard Parish has been around for a number of years. This group of volunteers come together in the Janssen Center Gathering Room on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month to participate in a special ministry of knitting, prayer and fellowship. Prayer shawls are knitted or crochet for distribution to those who have an extended illness or who may benefit from the touch of this loving endeavor. This is an all-ages activity and you may participate with the group on Wednesdays or by knitting on your own at home. We share patterns, pray together, bless the shawls, share our stories and help others learn or re-learn to knit or crochet. What is Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is an outreach ministry at St. Bernard Parish. One can participate by attending the gatherings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month or from their home. We welcome knitters and crocheters who are able to make the meetings or individuals who prefer to make their prayer shawls at home.
What are Prayer Shawls?
Prayer shawls are given as an example of God’s love and care. The shawl is made of soft yarn so the recipient can wrap up in it and feel God’s arms around him or her. Individuals in this ministry pray before, during and after they work on the shawl. Upon completion of the shawl, a blessing is provided by Father Dennis. Thus, the blessing flows from person-to-person with both the maker and recipient feeling the unconditional embrace of the sheltering, mothering God.
Getting Involved in the Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. Bernard Parish is open to anyone who has the skill to knit or crochet or who has the desire to learn. Additional hands are always needed. Whether you knit or crochet quickly or slowly, your help is valuable to make our mission succeed. To learn more about the Prayer Shawl Ministry, contact Ann Palushik at 920-364-9589.
