All children in grades Pre-K through four (ages 4 - 10) are invited to participate in the Children's Liturgy of the Word on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Sundays during the 10:00 am Mass.
Children’s Liturgy Of the Word is held for three Sundays every month from September through May. Each Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word is enriched and modified to make it important and relevant to the lives and experiences of young children.*
Young children are given the opportunity to understand the Gospel message at their own level by participating in an educational, collaborative activity in which they will be given a chance to act out and perform a current Gospel story.
The children will be encouraged to learn a new Bible verse every week based on the present week’s Gospel message.
After the Introductory Rites of the Mass, the priest invites the children to come to the foot of the altar for a blessing before following their catechists to Rooms 100 – 102 for a modified version of that Sunday’s readings and Gospel story.* Students will return to their families after the Universal Prayers.
*The Directory for Masses with Children allows for these differences to accommodate children’s level of comprehension. All Gospel summaries are based on the Contemporary English Version translation of The American Bible Society, 1991. The translation used is from Lectionary for Masses with Children, 1992, USCC and is approved for use in all dioceses of the United States.
